URSI Awards

The URSI awards are presented at the Opening Ceremony of the URSI General Assembly.
The "senior" awards are the Balthasar van der Pol Gold Medal, the John Howard Dellinger Gold Medal, the Appleton Prize, and the Booker Gold Medal, and the "junior" award is the Koga Gold Medal.

Appleton Prize

Citation: "For his outstanding work on radar imaging and satellite radar interferometry, a technique combining high frequencies, propagation and digital signal processing.".

Balthasar van der Pol Gold Medal

Prof. I.V. LINDELL, Finland
Citation: "For the development of new methods and solutions in electromagnetic field theory and for exceptional didactic skills.".

Booker Gold Medal

Prof. Y. RAHMAT-SAMII, USA
Citation: "For fundamental contributions to reflector antenna design and practice, near-field measurements and diagnostic techniques, handheld antennas and human interactions, genetic algorithms in electromagnetics, and the spectral theory of diffraction.".

Issac Koga Gold Medal

Prof. S.C. HAGNESS, USA
Citation: "For contributions to the development of enhanced finite-difference time-domain methods in computational electromagnetics, and ultrawideband microwave imaging techniques for early breast cancer detection.".

John Howard Dellinger Medal

Prof. J.B. ANDERSEN, Denmark
Citation: "For significant contributions to the theory of antenna characteristics and scattering, wave propagation over inhomogeneous areas in mobile communication, and interaction between electromagnetic fields and biological tissue.".
