Description
Meteorological observations are critical for monitoring weather and climate, produce watches and warnings to save lives, provide input to models as well assupport climate change research. The technology and science of meteorological observations have been rapid growth anddevelopment over the past three decades primarily driven by miniaturization of newsensors and devices, advances in signal processingdevices as well as rapid development in computing. The development ofnew meteorological observationtechnology has dramatically accelerated thescientific development of atmospheric science, and meteorological detectionsuch as the impact of dual-polarization radars, and in-situ observations, as well as observing platforms such as drones and high altitude balloons. In addition, the rapid advances in in small weather radar networks that are changing the face of basin scale hydrological monitoring.
